Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Erlongshan Tree Farm, Mishan County, Heilongjiang Province. It was named by Liang Qingcu in 1964, and was cited officially by the Heilongjiang Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (1993).


Lithology and Thickness

Volcanics and volcaniclastics. Composed chiefly of intermediate-basic volcanic rocks. Lower part consisting of andesitic tuffaceous sandy conglomerate, tuff and basalt. Upper part consisting of green basaltic porphyrite, andesitic basalt and andesitic porphyrite. The base of the formation consists of brecciated tuff. Thickness is 514 m.

Lower contact

Unconformable contact with the underlying Tatouhe Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Erlongshan Tree Farm of Mishan County, as well as in the area of Yongjin Bridge of Baoqing County.

Plant fossils (phytolites), such as Noeggerathiopsis mishanensis, belong to the Permian Period
